Monster Hobbies 2026 Build A Monster Contest

Hey everybody!

It's time once again for the Build A Monster Contest. All your favorite categories are back, along with a very exciting special category!

This year, we're going to celebrate Cyborgs and Robots!

Stick with the original kit or go beyond the box!

Use kits from AMT, Polar Lights, Atlantis, Bandai, MPC, Games Workshop,
or mix and match your own creations.

You can enter stand-alone models or wild crossover dioramas where cyborgs and robots inhabit any world you can dream up!

For Walk-In Contestants:

Simply enter the store on Saturday, October 31st 2026 with your model and we will provide you with a contest entry form and a place to display your models. Don't forget to add a description of what you did to your model and which category it is in.

The walk-in deadline is 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 31st 2026.
Winners will be announced at 4:00 pm and certificates given out at that time. 

Models will be displayed on our new Facebook Business Page and featured in a special contest video on our YouTube channel : Monster Hobbies Monster Model Dungeon.

Walk-in entry payment can be made in person at our store.  $5.00 per entry

For Online Contestants:

Simply send 4 good pictures of your models to ursulescu@yahoo.com with a description of what you did to your model and which category it is in.

The online deadline is midnight Saturday, October 31^st 2026 - Alberta time.
Winners will be announced by November 3^rd 2026 on our new Facebook Business Page.
Online entry payment can be made through PayPal or by clicking on our "CONTEST ENTRY FEES AND RULES” section on our web store. - $5.00 per entry

Special Theme: Cyborgs and Robots

This year’s special theme invites contestants to explore the thrilling world of Cyborgs and Robots. Here’s what you can include in your entries:

Theme Overview:

• Concept: Dive into settings that showcase Cyborgs and Robots and all the places they would go. Space Stations, Battle Arenas, Distant Battle Fields, Back To The Past, On Board A Space Ship or Rusting In a Field. 

Inspiration:

Draw from popular Cyborg and Robot stories and media such as:

• Books : There have been many literary and dramatic works since the 1880's that feature robots and cyborgs.

• Original Movies: From the beginning of film into the 1950's, nothing beats the original aesthetic. 

• Later Movies: 1960's and 1970's Sci-Fi films really introduced the human/cyborg andriod look.

• Cartoons: Superman and the Mechanical Monsters, Robotech and The Transformers live here.

• TV Shows: Lost In Space, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rodgers, and many more! 

Entry Ideas:

• Heroes: Bring to life the heroes of the story. Who does your cyborg help?

• Locations: Showcase the unique and futuristic locations inspired by movies, books and games.

• Vehicles: In Forbidden Planet, Robbie The Robot has a car. Why not build that?

• The Robot's Demise: How was your robot brought to his terrible end? Let's see this in a diorama! 

Presentation Options:

• Stand Alone Models: Create impressive individual models that capture the essence of the theme.

• Diorama Creations: Construct scenes that encapsulate the chaos, beauty, and survival instincts of your models!
