The AMT/ERTL 1976 Chevrolet Caprice model car kit is another one of those model kits produced by MPC in 1975 as part of the Annual series of model kits. It shares basic construction with the 1972-1975 Impala annual kits, but this version was the last tooling in that series and has therefore lasted through the generations being released by Round 2 in 2010.

The 1976 Chevrolet Caprice by AMT/ERTL features a 20 piece Chevrolet 454 engine that includes the cylinder heads, front timing chain cover, engine block with transmission as a one piece unit, intake manifold with coil, carburetor, oil pan, distributor, starter, alternator with bracket, fan belt and pulleys, air cleaner, valve covers, exhaust manifolds and five-blade fan. The kit also includes an upper radiator hose that you apply in the chassis assembly.

The Chassis is pretty basic and is an almost solid pan casting. The exception is the rear axle, exhaust pipes and driveshaft piece. The chassis includes a full perimeter frame with lower A-arms, front and rear axle guide blocks.

The interior is of the the typical "Tub" design that was common practice for the era. You get a detailed front bench seat, steering wheel and dashboard. Simple, but looks correct and is a joy to paint and detail.

The "glass" components are the typical for the era windshield and rear glass connected via two clear rails. While this arrangement is great for alignment, you can separate them for better realism.

Under the hood, you get a highly detailed firewall, master cylinder, radiator with radiator wall and all the correct heater hoses and radiator hoses. A battery is also included.

A trailer hitch complete the chassis assembly as do the chrome front and rear bumpers and head lights and tail lights complete the body. The stock wheels include the GM hubcaps which are mounted on Goodyear Polyglass custom wide tread Bias Belted tires.

Although the trailer is not in this review, it seems to be the high point of the model and actually will lift up to load a car model on. It consists of 21 pieces. The 1976 Chevrolet Caprice by AMT/ERTL is a model car that will go together easily, look terrific on the shelf and bring you joy for years to come. If you can get your hands on one of these, do so!

This model kit is skill level 2, recommended for ages 10 and above.
