On June 14, 1962, the French Civil Defense received its first SA 3160 Alouette III, registration number 1036 (F-ZBAL), from Sud Aviation. The first flight of the Alouette III (SE 3160 No. 001) took place on February 28, 1959. At the time, the aircraft, with its maneuverability suitable for night vision flights, was considered ideal for surveillance and rescue missions.
